Help build the finance function of a fast-growing UK healthcare technology company

Script Assist is looking for an exceptional Assistant Financial Controller with hands-on experience running the day-to-day finance function of a startup, scale-up or SME.

We are not looking primarily for:

FP&A finance business partnering commercial analysis reporting-only experience a career auditor who has never operated an in-house finance function

We want a qualified, highly detailed finance operator who has personally run—or acted as the clear number two responsible for running—the underlying accounting operation of a growing business.

That should include:

bookkeeping quality month-end close accounts payable accounts receivable cash management balance-sheet reconciliations management accounts financial controls statutory compliance external accountants and auditors finance systems

Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is essential.

About Script Assist

Script Assist is building the operating system for next-generation private healthcare in the UK.

Our software is used by clinics, pharmacies and healthcare operators and already supports tens of thousands of medical cannabis prescriptions every month.

We are expanding into additional private healthcare markets, including:

ADHD weight loss longevity specialist private medicine other complex healthcare categories

We are also preparing for international expansion across multiple markets and legal entities.

As the business grows, we need a finance function that is accurate, controlled, scalable, highly automated and capable of supporting multi-entity global operations.

The role

You will work closely with the existing finance team, CEO, senior management and external advisers.

This is a broad, hands-on financial-control and accounting-operations role.

You will help ensure that:

the underlying books are accurate month-end closes properly and on time balance-sheet accounts are fully reconciled management reporting is reliable AP and AR are controlled cash is understood accounting processes are documented external advisers receive complete and accurate information Dynamics 365 Business Central is used properly the finance operation can scale across multiple countries and entities

The exact title matters less than the substance of your experience.

You must have personally operated the finance function—not merely analysed its output.

What you will own

You will support and increasingly own:

month-end close management accounts balance-sheet reconciliations P&L review variance explanations accruals and prepayments journals revenue accounting deferred and accrued revenue accounts payable accounts receivable credit control oversight bank reconciliations cash-flow reporting bookkeeping quality and review payroll coordination VAT and tax information statutory accounts coordination audit preparation external accountant and auditor coordination finance policies and controls chart-of-accounts discipline supporting schedules and working papers management and board reporting finance-process documentation finance-system improvements

You must be willing to remain close to the detail.

This is not a role where the underlying accounting work is somebody else’s problem.

End-to-end finance-function ownership

We are particularly interested in people who have worked in smaller, fast-moving businesses where the finance team could not be divided into narrow specialisms.

You may have:

managed a small internal finance team supervised bookkeepers or accountants worked with outsourced finance providers coordinated payroll providers managed external accountants supported tax advisers and auditors reported directly to a founder or CEO built processes where very little previously existed repaired weak or poorly controlled finance processes implemented a more disciplined month-end improved the accuracy and timeliness of reporting

You should understand how all parts of the finance function fit together.

⚙️ Dynamics 365 Business Central

Strong, hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is essential.

You should be comfortable using Business Central across areas such as:

general ledger sales ledger purchase ledger journals bank reconciliations dimensions chart of accounts approvals customer and supplier accounts financial reporting month-end processes controls data quality system discipline

Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV or Navision is useful, but it is not a substitute for recent, hands-on Business Central experience.

We are especially interested in candidates who have also supported:

a Business Central implementation a Business Central migration system clean-up chart-of-accounts redesign reporting improvements finance integrations approval workflows process automation becoming a Business Central finance superuser

International, multi-entity and group finance

Script Assist is preparing to operate across multiple countries and legal entities.

Experience in a central or group-finance environment would therefore be extremely valuable.

Useful experience includes:

multi-entity accounting multi-currency accounting group reporting consolidations intercompany accounting intercompany reconciliations intercompany eliminations overseas subsidiaries international month-end close reporting across several markets central finance regional finance coordination group audit support statutory coordination across multiple entities

You do not need to have been a Group Financial Controller.

However, you should understand the additional control and reporting challenges created when a business expands internationally.

Experience we particularly value

The strongest profile may be someone who:

trained in audit or accounting at a high-quality professional firm; and then moved in-house and personally ran finance in one or more startups, scale-ups or SMEs.

Relevant professional backgrounds may include:

Deloitte EY Pw C KPMG BDO Grant Thornton RSM another respected audit or accounting firm

However, Big Four experience alone is not enough.

You must also have meaningful in-house operating experience.

We are particularly interested in candidates from:

Saa S technology healthcare technology subscription businesses recurring-revenue companies professional services international SMEs founder-led businesses startups scale-ups multi-entity groups

Finance systems, automation and AI

We want someone who is unusually comfortable with technology for a finance professional.

The immediate priority is accurate, controlled finance.

However, we also want to build more efficient and automated processes.

Useful experience includes:

Power BI Power Query Power Automate advanced Excel macros reporting automation reconciliation automation finance dashboards no-code and low-code tools workflow automation API and integration awareness AI-assisted finance workflows Chat GPT Claude Microsoft Copilot Claude Code Cursor Make Zapier n8n

You do not need to be a software engineer.

But you should be excited by the opportunity to improve finance processes, automate repetitive work and use modern tools intelligently.
