Production Journalist

b Overview /b p In this role you will produce high-quality, compliant TV and digital news content for ITV Meridian. You’ll work in a fast-paced newsroom, coordinating live bulletins, scripts, and online pieces while building strong contacts and editorial judgement. You will shape the day’s news agenda through original ideas, robust planning, and clear collaboration with teams and contributors. This position offers the chance to influence regional coverage, engage digital audiences, and thrive under tight deadlines. /p b Responsibilities /b ul li Produce high-quality, compliant bulletins across all outputs (breakfast, lunch, late, weekends) from a live gallery and guide presenters on timings and scripting /li li Write accurate, engaging stories and scripts /li li Edit pictures with the provided software /li li Create graphics using the template-based system to illustrate stories /li li Curate ITV’s digital content on website or ITVX as required /li li Assist news desk or planning team with research, planning and newsgathering /li li Generate original ideas and contribute to daily news agenda on-air and online /li li Research ideas thoroughly for on-air and online output /li li Develop and maintain a wide network of contacts /li li Meet online and on-air deadlines, reacting quickly to breaking stories /li li Exercise editorial judgement and adhere to ITV Legal Compliance, ITV Trust and OFCOM guidelines /li li Promote diversity, equity and inclusion in output /li li Be able to perform all roles consistently including weekends and late/early shifts /li li Possess ability to travel to district offices or other news operations when required /li li Operate within a pressurised newsroom to make quick decisions under pressure /li /ul b Key requirements /b ul li Fully qualified NCTJ, BJTC or equivalent experience /li li Working knowledge of Ofcom code, media law and compliance /li li Evidence of researching and developing original ideas /li li Creative approach to storytelling for on-air and online /li li Knowledge of digital platforms and reaching new audiences online /li li Excellent organisational skills and ability to plan multiple stories /li li Strong writing skills for TV and digital /li li Excellent news judgement with knowledge of national and regional news /li li Strong knowledge of the patch, its cultural heritage and engaging audiences /li li Proven track record of producing content to deadline under pressure /li li Experience sourcing contributors and building relationships /li /ul ul li Confident and clear communication /li li Team collaboration /li li Initiative and self-motivation /li li Editorial drafting for TV and online /li li Live gallery broadcasting coordination /li li Digital content curation for websites/ITVX /li /ul
