Job Description

Position Summary

The Director of Business Development is a senior leadership role responsible for building and leading ELITE’s business development department and driving the company’s strategic growth in the multifamily and construction markets, typically on projects in the $5M–$50M+ range. This role goes beyond managing a personal client book, the VP is accountable for establishing repeatable business development processes, building and mentoring a high-performing business development team, and ensuring a consistent, scalable pipeline of qualified opportunities across the organization. Established relationships with multifamily developers and owners are essential, as the VP will be expected to leverage and expand this network to drive new business from day one. The ideal candidate is a strategic, hands-on leader with a track record of building teams and closing deals, who is equally comfortable setting department strategy and personally cultivating high-value client relationships. Qualified candidates must have very strong communication and leadership skills, the flexibility to travel as needed, and the ability to present information in verbal and written form in an organized and logical manner.

Performance Objectives

  • Builds and leads ELITE’s business development department, establishing the strategy, processes, and systems needed for a scalable, repeatable pipeline of new business
  • Leads and develops a high-performing business development team, mentoring team members and building a clear path for growth within the department
  • Leverages and expands an established network of multifamily developer and owner relationships to drive new business from day one
  • Owns company-wide sales targets, ensuring pipelines across the team maintain consistent deal flow to accomplish quarterly and annual sales goals
  • Serves as the executive-level primary contact for major Clients, Architects, and Engineers, professionally representing ELITE and personally managing key relationships
  • Manages the business development department’s budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to marketing and client development efforts
  • Delivers regular pipeline and performance reporting to the President and executive leadership, using tracking software to maintain visibility into prospective and current clients
  • Partners with the estimating team to ensure all items are bought out and to confirm scope, cost, and timeline with clients, including setting up special procedures (e.g., owner direct purchases) that maximize cost savings
  • Champions company policies and procedures across the department
  • Other duties as assigned


Key Competencies

  • Proven track record building, leading and mentoring business development or sales teams into future leaders in the construction industry
  • Established relationships with multifamily developers and owners; a current network in this space is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent ELITE at the executive level with clients, industry partners, and internal leadership
  • Strong business acumen, able to develop, communicate, and execute a strategic client acquisition and department growth plan
  • Flexibility to travel locally, across Texas, and to surrounding states as necessary to attend events, conferences, and meet with current and prospective property owners
  • A winning attitude, a positive problem-solving approach, and a genuine desire to lead at the highest level

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Punctual regular attendance is an essential function of the job; in-office presence 5 days per week at ELITE office (Monday through Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm)
  • Minimum of 40 hours per week, including the possibility of working during "off hours" and/or weekends for special events or unexpected project needs
  • Ability to set priorities, multi-task, and be personally accountable for the functions associated with the assigned position
  • Traveling as needed to local and statewide projects, events, and client meetings

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in business development or sales within the commercial and/or multifamily construction industry, including prior experience building or leading a business development team, required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including team-building and department or process development, required
