Technical Lead – Design Thinking & Methodology (DTM)

1. Role Purpose

The Technical Lead – Design Thinking & Methodology (DTM) will be responsible for planning, delivering, and overseeing the Design Thinking & Methodology training programme at the Centre of Excellence in Design (D-CoE). The role focuses on teaching structured engineering design methodology, mentoring multidisciplinary teams, supervising design projects, and coordinating technical programmes aligned with innovation, product development, and problem-solving.

The Technical Lead will guide participants through the complete design process, including problem identification, user research, requirement engineering, ideation, concept evaluation, simulation, and final design development while promoting a hands-on, project-based learning environment.

2. Key Responsibilities

2.1 Teaching, Training & Curriculum Execution

Design and deliver structured training modules in Design Thinking and Engineering Design Methodology.

Deliver lectures on design principles, user-centered design, engineering problem solving, innovation, and product development.

Conduct hands-on workshops and training programmes in offline, hybrid, and online formats.

Train participants in structured design tools and methodologies.

Adapt technical content to suit learners from diverse engineering, design, and multidisciplinary backgrounds.

Lead project-based learning activities throughout the module.

2.2 Intern & Project Supervision

Mentor interns and project teams working on product design, engineering design, and innovation projects.

2.3 Collaboration & Outreach

Collaborate with faculty members, programme coordinators, and technical staff.

Engage with academic institutions, industry experts, and innovation partners.

Contribute to outreach programmes, workshops, and capacity-building initiatives.

Perform any other duties assigned by the organisation.

3. Required Skills & Competencies

3.1 Technical Competencies

Strong understanding of Design Thinking and Engineering Design Methodology.

Knowledge of Product Design and Product Development processes.

Experience with user research and generating requirement engineering.

Familiarity with Generative AI tools for engineering design, ideation, and design documentation.

Ability to translate complex engineering concepts into engaging learning experiences.

Strong mentoring and facilitation abilities.

Strong organisational and programme management skills.

Collaborative mindset with the ability to work in interdisciplinary environments.

High level of ownership, accountability, and initiative.

4. Qualifications & Experience

Master's degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Innovation Design, or related discipline.

Prior experience in product design, engineering design, design consulting, innovation, or R&D.

Experience in teaching, technical training, or mentoring engineering/design students is preferred.

Experience working in academic, innovation, incubation, or capacity-building environments is desirable.

Excellent presentation, facilitation, and communication skills.
