A total of one (1), 0.5 FTE, Advanced Practice Professional (either NP or PA) will be hired to fill this job opening.

Responsibilities*

The Orthopaedic Surgery Oncology service is seeking a physician assistant/nurse practitioner to provide and advance the care of our patients through dedicated, professional service as an integral member of a comprehensive team.
Job Responsibilities include:
? Management of Orthopaedic Oncology patients in the outpatient setting
? Direct care and management of Ortho Oncology patients in the outpatient setting which includes: performing detailed medical history and physical evaluation, development of differential diagnosis, patient and family education, counseling and support, collaboration and referral to other services and provision of education to nursing staff, students and community
? Providing service continuity in the outpatient clinical setting (including preoperative and postoperative care)
? Management of Orthopaedic Oncology patients in collaboration with other specialties including coordination of care plans as needed, collaborate with other health care providers/clinicians to coordinate clinical care.
? Conduct new patient and new patient intake visits, pre operative H and P visits, return visits, peri-operative care
? Collecting and assisting in the interpretation of reports from diagnostic imaging studies, laboratory tests and pathology test results
? Ongoing monitoring of patients requiring surveillance
? Participation in tumor board meetings
? Performing various minor office-based procedures
? Serving as a resource to administrative (administrative assistants and call center) and medical (nursing and medical assistants) staff daily and in instances of faculty absences or other APP absences
? Providing follow up to patients and assistance in the referral to various internal and external facilities.
? Participation in quality improvement activities
? Participation in conferences and other professional development opportunities pertaining to Orthopaedic Surgery Oncology.
? Services as a preceptor and mentor for APP students

Required Qualifications* Required Qualifications NP:
  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
  • Current specialty certification to practice as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
  • Current DEA required
  • AHA Approved BLS
  • Two or more years of APP experience
  • Previous APP experience working in surgical oncology

Required Qualifications PA:
  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
  • State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required
  • Current DEA Required.
  • AHA Approved BLS
  • Two or more years of APP experience
  • Previous APP experience working in surgical oncology

Desired Qualifications*

Previous APP experience working in Oncology
Previous APP experience working in surgical subspeciality, orthopaedic surgery preferred
Demonstrated experience in evaluation and care of preoperative and postoperative surgical patients. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and patient service skills.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize, problem solve, and delegate effectively and efficiently. Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team member of the Orthopaedic Oncology Service
Demonstrated superior attention to detail and organizational commitment.
Demonstrated leadership in a professional healthcare setting or other professional activities.
Demonstrated active participation in professional development activities.

Full Time Salary range: $130,630 - $200,734 / year

Modes of Work

Work Schedule 20 hours/week, weekdays no on-call requirements. Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening
