KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Medical Assistants are expected to:- Act as a liaison between the patient and the healthcare providers.
- Verify patient information by interviewing patients, recording medical history in the EMR system, and confirming the purpose of the visit.
- Prepare patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests, such as taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature, and documenting findings.
- Administer injections and vaccines to patients.
- Assist providers with pap smear examinations.
- Perform electrocardiograms (EKG), Quanta Flo testing (for peripheral vascular disease), and Spirometry testing (to assess lung capacity).
- Perform ear lavages, urinalysis, pregnancy tests, and glucose finger sticks.
- Conduct testing for sexually transmitted infections (Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Syphilis, Hepatitis C, and HIV rapid tests).
- Demonstrate teamwork by providing support and coverage as needed.
- Complete prior authorizations (Pharmacy and Medical) and facilitate referrals as ordered by the provider.
- Interact with pharmacies regarding patient concerns, medication issues, and refills.
- Navigate the EMR system by addressing telephone encounters, documents, and referrals according to protocols and timeframes.
- Answer messages and tasks promptly; address prescriptions as ordered by providers.
- Secure patient information and maintain patient confidentiality by safeguarding medical records.
- Schedule follow-up appointments and assist with patient inquiries before and after appointments.
- Adhere to professional standards, policies, and procedures, including federal, state, and local requirements.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment and always uphold professionalism.
- All duties and requirements must be performed consistently with Spectrum Medical Care Center’s performance standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in a similar role; Primary Care experience preferred. Work Experience- Experience with EMR programs.
- Experience working with LGBTQ+ communities, people living with HIV, or other underserved populations strongly preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License. (required)
- Medical Assistant diploma or certificate. (preferred)
- Must be able to obtain an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card during background check process. (Required)
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
- Strong communication skills; comfortable engaging diverse groups and individuals.
- Understanding of basic STI and HIV terminology and sexual health language.
- Demonstrated cultural competency and commitment to reducing stigma.
- Strong communication skills, cultural competence and a non-judgmental attitude, treating all patients with respect and dignity, regardless of background or identity.
- Able to comply with HIPAA Regulations and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred but not required.
- Salary Range $22 per hour - $24 per hour
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, eligible on the first day of the month following your start date.

- 120 hours of Vacation time, 4.62 hours accrued bi-weekly starting date of hire. Available to use after the first day of employment.
- 1 week, 40 hours of Paid Sick Leave accrued bi-weekly starting date of hire. Available to use after the first day of employment.
- 9 annual paid holidays.
- You are also entitled to carry over 80 hours of PTO into the following calendar year.
