Head Coach / Trainer Development Lead - Strength & Conditioning (NSCA-CSCS)
EMS Xperience (Now Active20) · Tamil Nadu, India
Job Description
Company description:
EMS Xperience, now operating as Active20, is a fitness and performance training organization focused on evidence-based strength and conditioning and personalized coaching using EMS technology. We help individuals improve physical performance, functional fitness, and overall well-being through structured training programs, regardless of age or goals - from athletes to senior citizens. Active20 emphasizes professional standards, safety, and measurable progress for every client. Team members collaborate to deliver high-quality coaching, maintain a positive training environment, and continually enhance their knowledge and skills.
Running successfully in Bangalore for 2+ years with 600+ clients, we're expanding fast - a second Bangalore studio opens September 2026 and our Coimbatore studio launches November 2026, as we build toward a larger franchise network. We're front-runners in this category, which represents a huge opportunity for S&C in India, and we're confident in that position based on the results we've delivered across client categories over the last two years.
Role Description:
The Head Coach / Trainer Development Lead - Strength & Conditioning (NSCA-CSCS) is a full-time, on-site role based in Coimbatore. We're not hiring a trainer - we're hiring someone to build the system that trains every trainer who joins Active20 going forward.
This role owns the design and delivery of internal training and certification modules, mentors and upskills the trainer team, and sets the standard for coaching quality, safety, and adherence to scientific principles across all studios. Beyond curriculum, the Head Coach oversees daily training operations - planning and delivering strength and conditioning sessions, supervising client assessments, and ensuring programs are tailored to individual needs and goals - while collaborating on program design, supporting performance testing, and maintaining training facilities and equipment.
A key part of this role is research and thought leadership. As category leaders in EMS-based training in India, we want to build the evidence base for how EMS affects client outcomes across different populations - athletes, senior citizens, and everyone in between. This includes conducting structured research on training outcomes, publishing papers, and representing Active20 at relevant conferences and in media as a voice for evidence-based EMS training in the country.
The role also involves coordinating schedules, tracking client and coach progress, contributing to community outreach or workshops, and representing Active20's coaching philosophy in every interaction - internally with the trainer team and externally with clients.
Qualifications:
- NSCA-CSCS certified (or equivalent), with a strong foundation in strength and conditioning principles, exercise science, and program design
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on coaching experience with individuals or small groups, with the ability to tailor training plans across diverse fitness levels and goals
- Minimum 3 years of experience teaching, mentoring, or developing other trainers or coaches - experience with a recognized certifying body or training academy (e.g. NSCA, NASM, INFS, or university-level exercise science faculty) is a strong plus
- Experience designing structured training curriculum or SOPs, not just delivering sessions
- Experience or comfort designing assessment criteria and making certification decisions on other coaches' readiness - this is an evaluative role, not just a training one
- No prior EMS experience required, but a genuine willingness to learn the technology and research its effects on different client populations is important
- Interest or prior experience in research, publishing, or presenting at conferences - comfortable engaging with the scientific literature and contributing to it
- Clear, professional communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts simply and give constructive feedback
- Strong personal standards for coaching quality - comfortable holding trainers accountable and delaying certification if someone isn't ready
- Comfortable building processes and standards from the ground up in a fast-scaling, early-stage environment
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle scheduling, documentation, and coach development tracking
- Based in or open to relocating to Coimbatore
- Willingness to travel for conferences and represent Active20 externally
