Hardware System Engineer

Wayland Autonomy · Nashville, Tennessee, United States

Job Description

Integrate the electrical, mechanical, firmware, and software of our next-generation, lightweight UAV imaging pods into one system that flies. You own the hardware lifecycle at system level: requirements, bring-up, test, and the failure that only shows up on the airframe.

Check below to see if you have what is needed for this opportunity, and if so, make an application asap.

Technical leadership

System integration: work with electrical, mechanical, firmware, and software to bring subsystems into one high-performing imaging payload.
Requirements and architecture: define, document, and trace system-level requirements and hardware specifications against product goals.
Design reviews: participate in, and in time drive, cross-functional reviews of schematics, layouts, and mechanical enclosures for compatibility and reliability.
Multidisciplinary execution: sit across mechanical, electrical, logical, and firmware so the pod works as one system, not four parts.
Operational excellence

Testing and validation: design, build, and execute test plans covering environmental, electrical, and functional testing of prototypes and production-ready systems.
Root-cause analysis: system-level bugs, hardware failures, and performance bottlenecks, using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers.
Lifecycle support: from conceptual prototype through manufacturing bring-up and failure analysis.
Technical domains

Electrical: analog and digital circuit design, power distribution, signal integrity.
Protocols: I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, PCIe, USB.
Lab and CAD: oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies; exposure to ECAD (Altium, Eagle, OrCAD) or MCAD.
Scripting: Python or C/C++ for test automation and data analysis.
Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's in electrical, computer, mechatronics, or systems engineering, or a closely related field.
1-4 years hands-on hardware development, systems engineering, or product testing. A strong internship or highly technical university project is considered. xzbcwsv
