Senior Staff Accountant

<p> About the Role </p><p> AKRF is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations within a fast-paced engineering and environmental consulting firm. This role will play a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end close, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and project-based accounting standards. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced accountant who understands project-based revenue, WIP, and job costing in a professional services environment. </p><p> Job Responsibilities: </p><p> General Accounting &amp; Close </p><ul><li> Lead the preparation and review of journal entries (accruals, prepaids, allocations) </li><li> Coordinate and execute monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities </li><li> Prepare and review general ledger reconciliations, including bank and balance sheet accounts </li><li> Assist with financial statement preparation, variance analysis, and management reporting </li><li> Analyze financial results and provide recommendations to improve accuracy and efficiency </li></ul><p> Project Accounting Support </p><ul><li> Support and review revenue recognition (percentage-of-completion / time &amp; materials) </li><li> Analyze Work-in-Progress (WIP), deferred revenue, and project profitability </li><li> Partner with project accountants and project managers to review project financials, budgets, forecasts, and profitability </li><li> Assist in resolving complex project accounting issues and ensuring accurate project reporting </li></ul><p> Compliance &amp; Audit </p><ul><li> Lead support for the annual audit (and other agencies' audits) and tax preparation processes </li><li> Maintain and enhance documentation to ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls </li><li> Assist with the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of accounting policies and procedures </li><li> Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable accounting standards </li></ul><p> Process Improvement </p><ul><li> Identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting workflows, reporting, and internal controls </li><li> Support ERP system enhancements, automation initiatives, and process optimization </li><li> Participate in cross-functional projects to improve financial reporting and operational efficiency </li></ul><p> Essential Requirements: </p><ul><li> Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field </li><li> 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience (professional services, engineering, or consulting preferred) </li><li> CPA certification or CPA-track preferred </li><li> Strong understanding of: </li></ul><ul><li> Revenue recognition </li><li> Project/job costing and WIP </li><li> Financial statement preparation and analysis </li><li> GAAP </li></ul><ul><li> Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Deltek Vision, Vantagepoint, or similar) </li><li> Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills </li><li> Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment </li><li> Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and mentor junior staff </li></ul><p> Compensation </p><p> Compensation will range from $90K to $110K, commensurate with experience. </p><p> Why Work at AKRF </p><p> Founded in 1981, AKRF is an award-winning consulting firm with 400 planners, engineers, designers, economists, ecologists, geologists, historians, archaeologists, acousticians, and many other types of professionals guided by the belief that to be original is to be transformative. </p><p> Professionals join and remain at AKRF for our corporate-casual environment that values flexible work schedules and locations, and balances award-winning projects with social impact initiatives, charitable giving, and plenty of fun and games.
