Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching & Instruction: Design, update, and deliver engaging undergraduate and/or graduate courses in areas such as world literature, literary theory, composition, or specialized sub-fields.
  • Student Assessment: Create comprehensive syllabi, assignments, and exams; evaluate and grade student performance objectively and constructively.
  • Research & Scholarship: Maintain an active program of scholarly research, publish peer-reviewed articles, monographs, or literary works, and present findings at academic conferences.
  • Mentorship & Advising: Hold regular office hours to mentor students, guide thesis or capstone projects, and advise on academic pathways and career development.
  • Departmental & University Service: Participate actively in department meetings, faculty committees, curriculum development, and campus-wide events or outreach programs.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Ph.D. or terminal degree in English, Literature, Creative Writing, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution. (Candidates near completion of their dissertation may be considered under specific terms).
  • Experience: Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching at the college or university level.
  • Research Potential: Evidence of—or a strong track record for—scholarly publication and active engagement in the academic community.
  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to foster an inclusive, critical, and collaborative classroom environment.
