Job Description

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Fiber Construction Subject Matter Expert (SME) with extensive hands-on experience executing and managing large-scale fiber network construction projects. This role will focus on analyzing, defining, and optimizing the sequence of construction activities across Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH), Fiber-to-the-Building (FTTB), and fiber-to-cell-site deployments.

The ideal candidate will bring deep practical knowledge of field construction operations, including activity dependencies, crew coordination, equipment readiness, permitting, site access, and contractor management. This individual will translate real-world construction expertise into detailed workflows that improve technician productivity, reduce operational bottlenecks, and accelerate construction milestones.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and document more than 800 construction activities within Engineering Work Orders (EWOs).
  • Establish efficient sequencing logic for aerial and underground fiber construction.
  • Identify prerequisites, interdependencies, critical activities, and potential execution risks.
  • Determine which activities can be performed simultaneously and which require a specific sequence.
  • Evaluate field processes involving cable placement, trenching, conduit installation, fiber splicing, testing, restoration, and commissioning.
  • Identify technician idle time, process inefficiencies, handoff issues, and operational bottlenecks.
  • Account for crew availability, equipment readiness, permits, site access, material availability, contractor coordination, and other field constraints.
  • Develop detailed construction workflows, activity maps, start and stop points, and sequencing recommendations.
  • Define practical execution milestones and identify opportunities to improve construction productivity.
  • Collaborate with construction operations, engineering, technology, and contractor teams to convert field expertise into actionable process improvements.
  • Clearly document findings, recommendations, dependencies, and optimized execution models.

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive hands-on experience in fiber network construction, including direct execution, supervision, or management of field construction activities.
  • Strong understanding of FTTH, FTTB, and fiber-to-cell-site construction processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of aerial and underground fiber construction.
  • Practical experience with cable installation, trenching, conduit placement, fiber splicing, testing, restoration, and commissioning.
  • Proven ability to identify construction dependencies, sequencing logic, critical-path activities, and opportunities for parallel execution.
  • Experience managing field crews, subcontractors, construction schedules, materials, equipment, and operational constraints.
  • Ability to break down complex fiber construction projects into detailed, step-by-step execution workflows.
  • Strong understanding of Engineering Work Orders (EWOs), construction milestones, and field execution challenges.
  • Excellent documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting large-scale fiber deployment programs for Verizon or another major U.S. telecommunications provider.
  • Background as a Fiber Construction Manager, OSP Construction Manager, Fiber Construction Superintendent, Senior Fiber Construction SME, or similar field leadership professional.
  • Experience optimizing construction workflows, reducing project delays, and improving field crew productivity.
  • Familiarity with process mapping, dependency analysis, critical-path methodologies, and operational transformation.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams on construction process improvement or technology-enabled operations initiatives.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a seasoned, field-experienced fiber construction professional rather than a traditional telecom planner, designer, or project coordinator. This individual should be able to clearly explain what occurs at each stage of fiber construction, what must happen first, which activities can proceed in parallel, where work can pause or resume, and which practical field constraints influence execution.

The successful candidate will be comfortable translating years of hands-on construction experience into structured, detailed workflows that can be used to improve large-scale fiber construction operations.

Pay Range: $50 - $55/HR

The specific compensation for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. Our full-time consultants have access to benefits including medical, dental, vision and 401K contributions as well as any other PTO, sick leave, and other benefits mandated by appliable state or localities where you reside or work.
