Job Title: School Student Counselor
Job Description
The School Student Counselor is responsible for supporting the academic, emotional, social, and behavioral well-being of students. The counselor works closely with students, parents, teachers, and school leadership to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment that promotes student success and holistic development.
Key Responsibilities
Student Counseling Provide individual and group counseling sessions to students facing academic, emotional, social, or behavioral challenges. Build trusting relationships with students and provide a safe, confidential environment for discussing concerns. Help students develop resilience, self-confidence, emotional regulation, and effective coping strategies. Support students in managing stress, anxiety, peer relationships, and other age-appropriate developmental concerns.
Academic & Career Guidance Guide students in setting realistic academic and personal goals. Assist students in developing effective study habits, time management, and organizational skills. Provide career awareness and educational guidance appropriate to different grade levels. Support students in making informed decisions regarding subject selection and future educational pathways.
Student Well-being Monitor students' emotional, behavioral, and social development. Identify students requiring additional support through observation, teacher referrals, and student interactions. Develop intervention plans for students experiencing academic or behavioral concerns. Promote positive mental health and overall student well-being.
Parent Collaboration Meet with parents to discuss student progress, concerns, and intervention strategies. Provide guidance to parents on supporting their child's emotional, behavioral, and academic development. Maintain regular communication with parents while ensuring student confidentiality and safeguarding protocols.
Teacher Collaboration Work collaboratively with teachers, coordinators, and school leaders to identify and support students requiring intervention. Recommend classroom strategies to address students' academic, emotional, and behavioral needs. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to review student progress and develop support plans.
Life Skills & Preventive Programs Plan and conduct workshops, awareness sessions, and classroom guidance programs on: Emotional Intelligence Stress Management Bullying Prevention Cyber Safety Mental Health Awareness Study Skills Goal Setting Decision Making Leadership and Communication Skills Personal Safety and Well-being
Crisis Intervention Provide immediate emotional support to students during personal or family crises. Identify students at risk and coordinate timely intervention with school authorities and parents. Refer students requiring specialized psychological or psychiatric support to appropriate professionals when necessary. Maintain appropriate documentation of crisis interventions and follow-up actions.
Safeguarding & Child Protection Ensure compliance with school child protection and safeguarding policies. Report concerns related to child safety in accordance with institutional guidelines. Maintain confidentiality while balancing ethical and legal responsibilities.
Documentation & Reporting Maintain confidential counseling records and case documentation. Prepare student progress reports and intervention summaries. Track counseling outcomes and recommend follow-up support where required. Maintain accurate records in accordance with school policies.
School Engagement Promote a positive, inclusive, and student-friendly school culture. Participate in school events, orientation programs, student leadership initiatives, and wellness campaigns. Support school initiatives that enhance student engagement and overall development.
Skills and Qualifications Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, School Psychology, Social Work, or a related field. Bachelor's degree in Psychology or related discipline (minimum requirement where applicable). Previous experience in school counseling, student counseling, child psychology, or adolescent mental health is preferred. Strong understanding of child and adolescent development. Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills. Ability to establish trust and maintain confidentiality. Strong problem-solving and crisis management abilities. Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and school leadership. Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds. Basic computer skills for documentation, reporting, and communication.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
This position is primarily based within a school environment and standard office settings. The role may require movement between classrooms, counseling rooms, and other school facilities. Occasional participation in school events, parent meetings, workshops, and student activities may require flexible working hours.

Education Master's Degree in Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, School Psychology, Social Work, or a related field (Preferred)
Experience Total Work Experience: 0-2 years (Preferred) School Counseling/Student Counseling: 2 years (Preferred) Experience working with children and adolescents in an educational institution is an added advantage.
Requirements Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Clinical Psychology, School Psychology, Social Work, or a related field. Minimum 2 years of experience in student counseling, preferably in a school setting. Strong knowledge of child and adolescent development. Excellent communication, active listening, empathy, and interpersonal skills. Ability to conduct individual and group counseling sessions. Experience in crisis intervention and behavioral management. Knowledge of child safeguarding and student protection policies. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional ethics. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital documentation tools. Fluency in English; knowledge of Telugu and Hindi will be an added advantage.
