Fabulous In-House Deputy General Counsel Role For A Stellar Real Estate Attorney (New York City Metropolitan Area)

We are conducting a confidential search for a mid-level real estate attorney to join the legal team of a rapidly growing real estate finance and investment platform based in New York City. This is a newly created position with a broad legal mandate and significant senior-level exposure. The attorney will report to and work closely with a fabulous Chief Legal Officer, as well as the company’s co-CEOs and senior leadership. Over time, there is a clear opportunity to grow into a Deputy General Counsel / No. 2 legal role. The position is ideal for a real estate attorney who also enjoys operating as a commercial generalist, working directly with senior executives, and taking on significant responsibility. Responsibilities Real estate acquisitions and dispositions Joint ventures and investment structures Loan and financing documentation Contractor, architect, engineer, and design consultant agreements for Company’s development projects Investment management and private credit matters Day-to-day legal and strategic advice to senior management Corporate governance and general corporate matters Legal entity management and regulatory/compliance matters FHA/HUD and other regulatory matters Vendor and commercial agreements Helping build and develop the legal function as the business continues to grow Ideal Candidate The client is seeking an attorney with approximately 4–8+ years of real estate transactional and/or finance experience, either from a top law firm or in-house. The ideal candidate will be a commercial, versatile “best athlete” who can handle a broad range of matters rather than someone who is narrowly specialized. The environment is entrepreneurial, highly commercial, fast-paced, collaborative, and relatively informal. Employees are generally expected to be in the New York City office five days per week, with some flexibility and very reasonable hours. Compensation is highly competitive, with a $300K–$400K base plus bonus and excellent benefits.
