About the Job-As a Project Manager in Baton Rouge, you will be responsible for managing commercial construction projects from initial scope development and estimating through construction, closeout, and client turnover. Because much of our work is delivered through Job Order Contracting, this role requires a Project Manager who can successfully manage multiple projects and priorities at different stages of the construction lifecycle. You’ll partner closely with Superintendents, subcontractors, clients, design professionals, and internal teams to keep projects moving while maintaining control of scope, schedule, cost, quality, safety, and client expectations.
Just as importantly, you’ll play an active role in developing Jamail & Smith’s presence in Louisiana by building strong relationships with clients and local trade partners and representing our company in the Baton Rouge market.
What You Will Do-Manage multiple JOC and commercial construction projects from initial scope development through final completion and closeoutPartner with clients to understand project needs, site conditions, operational constraints, budgets, and schedulesPerform site walks and assist with developing project scopes, proposals, estimates, and execution plansDevelop and manage project budgets, cost forecasts, schedules, procurement activities, and project documentationSolicit, evaluate, and coordinate subcontractor and supplier proposalsBuild and maintain relationships with Louisiana subcontractors, vendors, and trade partnersCoordinate closely with Superintendents to plan manpower, logistics, sequencing, material deliveries, and field executionManage RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, subcontract agreements, and other project documentationMaintain accurate project financials and proactively identify potential cost or schedule impactsLead project meetings and maintain clear, proactive communication with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teamsManage projects within occupied K-12, higher education, government, and municipal facilities, coordinating work to minimize disruption to ongoing operationsEnsure projects meet contract requirements, quality standards, safety expectations, and applicable codes and regulationsProactively identify project risks and develop solutions before they impact schedule, cost, or client satisfactionDrive punch-list completion, project closeout, turnover documentation, and final financial reconciliationMaintain accurate and timely project information within Procore and company systemsDevelop strong client relationships that support repeat business and long-term partnershipsRepresent Jamail & Smith professionally as we continue establishing and growing our presence throughout Louisiana
What You Bring to the Table-3+ years of commercial construction Project Management experience preferredExperience managing projects from preconstruction or scope development through construction and closeoutExperience with Job Order Contracting (JOC), IDIQ, task-order, on-call, or other fast-paced public-sector construction delivery methods strongly preferredExperience in K-12, higher education, government, municipal, and/or other public-sector construction preferredExperience working in occupied or active facilities is highly valuedStrong understanding of construction estimating, scheduling, cost control, subcontractor management, procurement, and project documentationAbility to successfully manage multiple concurrent projects and competing prioritiesStrong financial awareness with the ability to manage budgets, forecasts, change management, and project profitabilityStrong communication, negotiation, organization, and problem-solving skillsAbility to develop productive relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and project stakeholdersProficiency with construction management technology; Procore experience preferredKnowledge of the Baton Rouge and/or Louisiana construction market is a plusBachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent commercial construction experience will also be considered
