About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to lead the development of the services behind Chekhub's platform. You'll work closely with product and the front-end team to design the APIs, data pipelines, and cloud services that mission critical teams rely on every day. This is a hands-on lead role where you'll shape backend architecture, help guide how AI is built into the platform, and advise other engineers as the team grows.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure backend services and APIs across Chekhub's platform.
• Serve as the backend lead, owning architecture decisions and advising peers as the platform and team scale.
• Partner with product and front-end engineers to translate requirements into features shipped end to end.
• Drive reliability, performance, and code quality across services and data.
• Other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as assigned or as business needs require.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in backend development, ideally within a B2B SaaS environment.
• Strong proficiency in Node.js and server-side JavaScript.
• Hands-on experience with MongoDB and Google BigQuery (or similar NoSQL and SQL databases).
• Proven experience designing and building RESTful APIs within a microservices architecture.
• Solid understanding of authentication, authorization, and security best practices.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or similar cloud providers, and CI/CD practices; Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) a plus.
• Familiarity with AI tools for productivity (Claude, ChatGPT, or similar).
• Self-starter who can operate with autonomy in a fast-paced, startup environment.
• Must be located in the Raleigh, NC area.

Preferred Skills

• Experience building AI-powered features or internal tooling, such as LLM integrations, agents, or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
• Experience designing AI system architecture, including model selection, context and prompt design, and evaluation.
• Experience training, fine-tuning, or deploying models with Google Vertex AI or similar AI/ML platforms.
• Containerization and orchestration experience (Docker, Kubernetes).
