Role Description The Consultant Ophthalmologist role is a full-time remote position focused on providing expert clinical guidance, diagnostic support, and treatment planning for patients across Akhand Jyoti’s network. Day-to-day responsibilities include reviewing patient records and diagnostic reports, advising on medical and surgical management, and supporting complex case discussions with on-site clinicians and optometrists. The consultant will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to refine clinical protocols, contribute to quality assurance, and support continuing medical education initiatives. Additional tasks may include participating in teleconsultations, mentoring junior ophthalmic professionals, and contributing to research, audit, and clinical outcome improvement related to cataract, refractive, and other ophthalmic services.

Qualifications Candidates should possess strong foundational skills in Medicine and Ophthalmology, with demonstrated expertise in diagnosing and managing a broad range of ocular conditions. Candidates should possess skills in Optometry and clinical evaluation, including refraction, visual acuity assessment, and interpretation of basic ophthalmic investigations. Candidates should possess proficiency in Ophthalmic Surgery and Laser procedures, such as cataract surgery and common therapeutic or diagnostic laser interventions. Relevant qualifications such as MD/MS/DNB in Ophthalmology or equivalent recognized specialization, with valid registration from the appropriate medical council. Experience in high-volume eye care or community ophthalmology, and familiarity with telemedicine or remote consultation platforms, is highly beneficial. Strong communication skills, commitment to ethical, patient-centered care, and willingness to support underserved communities and diverse populations. Ability to work collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical teams, contribute to protocol development, and engage in continuous professional development.
