PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Senior Copywriter will lead the copywriting and editorial function for Plan International (India Chapter). The role is responsible for developing compelling, high-quality, and brand-aligned content across social media, website, campaigns, programme communications, fundraising, advocacy, donor engagement, events, publications, and organisational communications.
The role will serve as the custodian of Plan India's written voice, ensuring consistency in messaging, storytelling, and editorial quality across all communication channels.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Content Development and Copywriting
- Develop compelling copy for websites, social media, campaigns, fundraising, advocacy, publications, reports, newsletters, presentations, emailers, speeches, and communication collateral.
- Write audience-centric content for donors, partners, corporates, government stakeholders, media, and the public.
- Create persuasive campaign messaging and calls-to-action that support fundraising, advocacy, and brand objectives.
Programme and Event Communications
- Develop programme stories, beneficiary case studies, impact narratives, and project communication materials.
- Create communication collateral for events, conferences, campaigns, donor engagements, and public outreach initiatives.
- Translate technical programme information into engaging, audience-friendly content.
Editorial and Brand Management
- Serve as the custodian of Plan India's editorial voice and ensure consistency across all communication materials.
- Review, edit, and proofread content to ensure accuracy, quality, and adherence to brand guidelines.
- Develop and maintain editorial standards, messaging frameworks, and content templates.
Digital and Social Media
- Develop engaging content for websites, social media platforms, blogs, email campaigns, and other digital channels.
- Work closely with the digital and creative teams to strengthen audience engagement through compelling storytelling.
- Support SEO and digital content best practices where applicable.
Collaboration and Content Planning
- Work closely with communications, fundraising, programme, partnerships, and leadership teams to develop communication content aligned with organisational priorities.
- Coordinate with designers, agencies, freelancers, and consultants to deliver integrated communication outputs.
- Manage multiple content projects while ensuring quality and timely delivery.
Research and Innovation
- Stay updated on communication trends, digital storytelling, AI-assisted content creation, and nonprofit communication practices.
- Recommend innovative content approaches to strengthen audience engagement and organisational visibility.
- Promote best practices in editorial planning and storytelling across communication channels.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Exceptional copywriting, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Excellent command of written English with strong attention to detail.
- Experience writing across websites, social media, fundraising, advocacy, campaigns, publications, and organisational communications.
- Strong understanding of branding, messaging, and content strategy.
- Knowledge of digital communications, SEO, and social media content.
- Excellent stakeholder management and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of ethical storytelling and laws related to the not-for-profit sector.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted writing tools and content management systems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Mass Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.
- 6–8 years of relevant experience in copywriting, editorial, content strategy, or communications.
- Experience in the development sector, nonprofit organisations, international NGOs, or social impact organisations will be preferred.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating excellence across digital, print, campaign, and long-form writing is essential.
