Role Description The Controller is a full-time, on-site role based in Frederick, MD, responsible for overseeing the company’s accounting operations and financial reporting. This role manages the general ledger, prepares monthly and annual financial statements, and ensures compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal policies. The Controller supervises accounting staff, oversees accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and cost accounting, and supports budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. The position collaborates with leadership to provide financial insights for decision-making, maintains internal controls, and supports audits and banking relationships. The Controller also contributes to process improvements, implements financial systems and tools, and helps uphold the company’s values through transparent and accurate financial management.
Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of financial accounting, general ledger management, and preparation of GAAP-compliant financial statements.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial modeling to support strategic decision-making.
• Proficiency in accounting and ERP software, Microsoft Excel, and related financial reporting tools.
• Understanding of tax regulations, internal controls, audit processes, and compliance best practices.
• Demonstrated leadership experience supervising accounting or finance teams and collaborating across departments.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
• Relevant experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager, or senior-level accounting professional, ideally in agriculture, manufacturing, or distribution.
