ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Backend Developer to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience building scalable, secure, and high-performance backend systems using Node.js, TypeScript, and NestJS. You will be responsible for designing and developing backend services, APIs, databases, asynchronous processing systems, integrations, and production-ready solutions. You will work closely with product, frontend, QA, DevOps, and other engineering teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Node.js, TypeScript, and NestJS.

• Build and maintain robust RESTful APIs and backend services.

• Design efficient and scalable database schemas and queries using PostgreSQL.

• Implement caching and high-performance data access using Redis.

• Build asynchronous and event-driven systems using at least one messaging or queue technology such as Kafka, BullMQ, or RabbitMQ.

• Design reliable background jobs, queues, retries, scheduled jobs, and failure-handling mechanisms.

• Participate in system architecture, technical design, and scalability discussions.

• Develop clean, reusable, maintainable, secure, and well-tested code.

• Implement authentication, authorization, and role-based access control.

• Integrate with third-party APIs and external services.

• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and improve system reliability.

• Participate in code reviews and maintain high engineering standards.

• Collaborate with frontend, QA, product, and DevOps teams.

• Mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance when required.

• Take ownership of features from technical design through deployment and production support.

REQUIRED SKILLS

• 4–7 years of professional backend development experience.

• Strong hands-on experience with Node.js.

• Strong proficiency in TypeScript.

• Hands-on experience with NestJS.

• Strong experience with PostgreSQL, including database schema design, SQL, indexing, transactions, and query optimization. (Must Have)

• Strong experience with Redis and practical knowledge of caching strategies. (Must Have)

• Hands-on experience with at least one of the following: Apache Kafka, BullMQ, or RabbitMQ. (Must Have)

• Experience with more than one of Kafka, BullMQ, or RabbitMQ is a strong advantage.

• Strong understanding of RESTful API design, validation, error handling, API versioning, and documentation.

• Experience with Swagger / OpenAPI.

• Experience with ORM tools such as Prisma or TypeORM.

• Good understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems.

• Knowledge of authentication and authorization using JWT, OAuth, RBAC, or similar mechanisms.

• Strong understanding of application security and secure coding practices.

• Experience with unit and integration testing, preferably using Jest.

• Strong Git knowledge and familiarity with modern branching workflows.

• Good debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

DEVOPS & CLOUD SKILLS

• Good understanding of Docker and containerization.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.

• Hands-on familiarity with Microsoft Azure and cloud-based application deployment.

• Understanding of production environments, logging, monitoring, alerting, and application observability.

• Familiarity with Linux environments.

• Knowledge of Nginx or similar reverse proxies is a plus.

NICE TO HAVE

• Experience with more than one messaging or queue technology among Kafka, BullMQ, and RabbitMQ.

• Experience with Kubernetes.

• Experience with Azure services such as Azure App Service, AKS, Azure Container Apps, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Azure Blob Storage, Azure Service Bus, Azure Functions, and Azure Monitor.

• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or Azure Bicep.

• Experience with GraphQL.

• Experience building multi-tenant SaaS applications.

• Experience in healthcare, fintech, or other systems involving complex business workflows.

• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The ideal candidate should be comfortable thinking about:

• Scalability and performance as traffic and data grow.

• Reliable processing of asynchronous jobs and events.

• Duplicate messages, retries, idempotency, and failure recovery.

• Database performance, transactions, locking, and concurrency.

• When to use caching and how to keep cached data consistent.

• Designing maintainable microservices and distributed systems.

• Secure deployments and production reliability.
