Engineer I&C (Life Safety Systems)

Location: Chandler AZ / Dallas TX / Albany NY / Raleigh-Durham NC (hybrid)

Salary: $85,000 to $100,000 per year DOE

The role

A leading engineering firm specialising in advanced technology and mission-critical facilities is hiring an Engineer I&C (Life Safety Systems) to support the design and delivery of complex semiconductor, cleanroom, and high-technology facilities across the US.

This is a design-focused engineering role centred around Fire Alarm and Life Safety Systems , with responsibility for developing compliant systems that protect people, property, and critical facility infrastructure.

You will design and model Life Safety Systems, coordinate with other engineering disciplines, work with manufacturers, vendors and clients, and support projects through design, installation, QA, commissioning, and validation.

If you have 3–5 years of experience designing Fire Alarm or Life Safety Systems and a strong understanding of applicable codes and standards, this is worth a conversation.

What you will be doing

• Design integrated Life Safety Systems for advanced technology, semiconductor, cleanroom, and other complex facility environments
• Design and document Fire Alarm Systems including detection, notification, monitoring, and control systems
• Develop Life Safety designs incorporating devices such as smoke detectors, heat detectors, manual pull stations, sprinkler waterflow and tamper monitoring, and emergency notification systems
• Design systems that support early fire detection, occupant notification, and smoke control strategies
• Evaluate life safety risks and vulnerabilities associated with sensitive and high-value facility operations
• Specify appropriate Life Safety devices, equipment, and controls while maintaining cleanroom and facility requirements
• Coordinate Life Safety designs with electrical, mechanical, architectural, process, and other engineering disciplines
• Work with clients, facility managers, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors to develop practical technical solutions
• Support projects through design, construction, commissioning, validation, and completion
• Prepare detailed drawings, specifications, calculations, and documentation for Life Safety Systems
• Participate in QA/QC activities and compliance reviews
• Ensure all designs comply with applicable building and fire codes, industry standards, and client requirements

What we need from you

• Bachelor's degree in Life Safety Engineering Technology, Fire Protection Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
• 3–5 years of relevant Life Safety / Fire Alarm engineering experience
• Strong knowledge of Fire Alarm and Life Safety Systems
• Understanding of applicable fire and life safety codes and standards
• Experience designing and documenting Fire Alarm Systems
• Revit and/or AutoCAD modelling experience
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams

Good to have

• NICET II Fire Alarm certification
• Experience with semiconductor fabs, cleanrooms, advanced manufacturing, data centers, or other mission-critical facilities
• Experience with addressable Fire Alarm Systems
• Experience with aspirating smoke detection systems
• Experience integrating Fire Alarm Systems with building management, security, suppression, and other facility systems
• Knowledge of NFPA 72 and other applicable NFPA standards
• Experience with smoke control and emergency notification systems
• Experience supporting commissioning, testing, and validation
• Experience working for an EPC or multidisciplinary engineering consultancy
