LGBTQIA+ Program - Clinical Trainee (Therapist Pursuing Licensure)

Pathways Counseling Center · St paul, United States

FULL TIME

Job Description

Clinical Trainee Position

Reports to: Jen Reddig, Director of the LGBTQIA+ Program Location: Hybrid – St. Paul, MN / Telehealth (Remote)

Pathways Counseling Center is growing and expanding to meet the increasing demand for high-quality, affirming mental health care. Our LGBTQIA+ Program, led by Director Jen Reddig, LICSW, provides compassionate, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed therapy for individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community. We are proud to create a space where clients can bring their full selves and where clinicians can grow both personally and professionally in a supportive, mission-driven environment.

We are seeking a Clinical Trainee (pursuing licensure) who is passionate about serving the LGBTQIA+ community and eager to grow as part of a collaborative and affirming team.

We welcome LGBTQIA+ adults and family members seeking to better support their loved ones.

We provide individual therapy via telehealth or in-person sessions at our Saint Paul office. Our specialties include:

  • Trauma recovery
  • Emotion regulation
  • Self-compassion
  • Diverse relationship structures

We specialize in supporting clients at the intersection of LGBTQIA+ identity and neurodivergence. Many neurodivergent individuals face challenges finding therapists who truly understand the complexity of their identities and lived experiences. Our team values authenticity, curiosity, and trust. We listen without judgment, honor each person's story, and celebrate the ongoing journey of self-discovery. Some of our providers share these identities themselves, allowing us to connect with clients in deeper, more meaningful ways.

LGBTQIA+ adults face unique mental health challenges—and we're here to help. Research shows that:

  • Lesbian, gay, and bisexual adults are over twice as likely to experience mental health issues compared to heterosexual adults. (SAMHSA, 2016)
  • Transgender adults are nearly four times more likely to face mental health struggles than their cisgender peers. (Transgender Health, 2019)

These disparities often stem from identity exploration, family rejection, and unsupportive environments. That's why affirming, culturally responsive care is essential. We believe every person deserves a therapist who understands their lived experience and offers compassionate, competent support. Our team is committed to creating a safe space where healing and self-discovery can thrive.

This is an independent contractor position—not a salaried or benefits-eligible role. There are many professional and personal benefits to working with our team, including:

  • Free supervision toward licensure (LPCC, LMFT, or LICSW)
  • Free CEU trainings and monthly professional development
  • Growth opportunities within a supportive organization
  • Exceptional flexibility and autonomy
  • Hiring, mid-year, and end-of-year bonuses

Experience working with LGBTQIA+ clients is preferred but not required—training and supervision are provided to ensure clinical competence and confidence in serving this community.

Position responsibilities include:

  • Provide psychotherapy to adults (18+) through telehealth and/or in-person sessions.
  • Conduct diagnostic assessments as needed.
  • Attend supervision sessions and monthly professional meetings.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.

Free clinical supervision is provided toward the following licensures:

  • Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
  • Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW)

Supervision is provided by Pathways' qualified supervisors.

Contract details and compensation include:

  • Independent Contractor status: paid time off and health insurance are not provided.
  • Flexibility: Create your own schedule and work remotely, in person, or hybrid.
  • Commitment: Minimum one-year contract.
  • Caseload: 20+ sessions per week (option to expand).
  • Compensation: Flat-rate reimbursement per service, plus travel reimbursement (if applicable).
  • Bonuses: Hiring, mid-year, and end-of-year bonuses available.

Pathways invests in your growth through:

  • Monthly training on topics such as LGBTQIA+ best practices, trauma-informed care, and integrative health.
  • Access to free CEU-approved trainings and online learning to meet state requirements.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Master's degree in counseling, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or social work.
  • Experience with the LGBTQIA+ community (preferred).

Skills & Attributes:

  • Respect and inclusion for all people.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
  • Strong knowledge of professional ethics and mental health standards.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain documentation accurately.

Additional Requirements:

  • Professional liability insurance.
  • Laptop and secure mobile internet connection.
  • No record of felony or gross misdemeanor.

Job Type: Full-Time, Independent Contractor Work Location: Hybrid (Remote and/or St. Paul, MN Office) Schedule: Flexible Compensation: Flat-rate reimbursement per service + bonus opportunities
