Artist / Model Maker
Direct Create · India
Job Description
Direct Create is a cultural intelligence and design practice based in New Delhi. We build art and craft programs for national landmarks, hotels, real estate developers, and retail brands, carrying a project from cultural research through to commissioned, fabricated work.
The studio's work begins in the field and ends in a room. Research in a sacred grove in Kodagu, at a loom in Bhuj, on a coffee estate in the Western Ghats. Installed work in a lobby, a suite, a landscape, a threshold. We are looking for an artist and 3D fabricator to carry a project across that distance.
THE ROLE Artist and 3D Fabricator. Kalkaji studio, New Delhi. Six days a week, on site.
Two positions are open. Associate, two to four years of professional practice. Intern, six months, for artists in their final year or recently graduated.
RESPONSIBILITIES Develop artistic concepts from cultural research and present them to architects, clients, and craftspeople. Model and detail work in Rhino with Grasshopper, Blender, ZBrush, Fusion 360, or SolidWorks, and render in KeyShot. Prototype in material. Clay, plaster, wood, metal, paper, and found material. Conduct multidisciplinary research across craft, ecology, architecture, and history. Produce research reports and presentation documents to a professional standard. Support commissioning and installation alongside makers and fabricators.
REQUIREMENTS A degree in fine art, applied art, sculpture, or design. Demonstrated fluency in at least one industry-standard 3D modeling package. Hand skills evidenced in the portfolio, in any material. Working knowledge of, or an active curiosity about, Indian craft traditions. Willingness to travel for field research.
At Direct Create, AI is used as an instrument under human direction. It is never credited as the author of a work.
TO APPLY Write to contact@directcreate.com with the subject line, Artist and 3D Fabricator. Attach a CV and a portfolio of work, professional and personal. Personal work is read closely. Your covering note should answer the following.
- Name one Indian craft or material process you know closely, and describe what makes it technically difficult.
- Identify one work in your portfolio made by hand and one developed digitally, and describe how your approach differed.
- State the 3D software you use daily and the last piece you modeled in it.
- Describe how you would begin translating a cultural site into an artwork for a public interior, and the first questions you would ask.
- State your earliest available start date and your salary expectation.
Compensation is aligned with experience.
Applications without a portfolio will not be reviewed.
