Job Description
Middle Office & Finance Officer – Commodities Trading
Geneva, Switzerland | Full-time
Budjet/Salary: CHF80k-100k / year
About the role
On behalf of one of our clients in Geneva, an international commodities trading company, we are seeking a Middle Office & Finance Officer.
Working closely with senior management, you will combine transaction risk monitoring, finance and treasury reporting, and coordination with external partners. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working with numbers, takes ownership of follow-ups and communicates confidently with banks, advisers and colleagues.
Key responsibilities
Middle office and risk monitoring
- Monitor trading margins against expectations and flag discrepancies.
- Track capital committed to transactions and identify delays in repayment or completion.
- Monitor overdue receivables, counterparty exposures and concentration risk.
- Follow up on shipments against advance payments and agreed schedules.
- Monitor foreign exchange exposures and compliance with banking covenants.
- Identify financial and operational risks, investigate exceptions and escalate concerns promptly.
Finance and treasury support
- Prepare and maintain cash-flow forecasts and payment schedules.
- Track incoming and outgoing payments in coordination with operations and accounting.
- Review bank charges, interest and financing costs.
- Maintain accurate Excel reporting and provide management with clear financial information.
- Work with the external accounting team to ensure information is complete and timely.
External relationships and coordination
- Coordinate day-to-day communications with banks, lawyers, auditors, accountants, insurers and brokers.
- Manage KYC updates, information requests and supporting documentation.
- Follow up on outstanding requests and maintain organised records.
- Progressively become the first point of contact for these relationships, with a structured handover from senior management.
Candidate profile
- Relevant experience in commodity trading, ideally across middle office, risk, treasury, finance or operations.
- Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial data.
- Understanding of physical trading flows, working capital and counterparty risk.
- Financial literacy, including the ability to understand accounts and financial statements.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and reliable follow-through.
- Clear communication skills and the judgment to handle confidential information responsibly.
- Ability to work independently, recognise issues and escalate them appropriately.
- Comfortable taking on varied responsibilities within a small, growing team.
Experience in a smaller trading business, where responsibilities span several functions, would be particularly relevant. Our client is open to different levels of seniority and places greater emphasis on practical capability and fit.
The opportunity
Join a growing international agricultural commodities business, with close exposure to commercial decision-making and the opportunity to develop into a broader risk and finance position.
