Recruitment Range: $56,638.40-$65,837.20 annually, depending on knowledge and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
  • High school or equivalent;
  • and five (5) years of related experience, three (3) years of which must have been in a related or non-related supervisory capacity;
  • or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses or Certifications:
  • Possession of an appropriate drivers license for equipment operated and any license, training, or certification required by law or regulation to complete assigned tasks.
Special Requirements:
  • None.
JOB SUMMARY
The Sanitation Supervisor performs highly responsible administrative and supervisory work directing the activities of a major phase of City operations.
An employee in this class is responsible for planning, assigning, supervising, and evaluating the work of employees. The department head or designee determines general policy, but the employee has considerable latitude to use discretion in establishing work priorities, schedules, and related assignments. The employee will exercise independent judgment in carrying out assignments.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates work of employees.
  • Makes adjustments in assignments, procedures, and schedules including the coordination of work assignments with other operations.
  • Participates in selection of personnel; trains and instructs employees, including the training and enforcement of safety rules and other accident prevention measures.
  • Prepares various reports concerning personnel, equipment, and materials. Prepares specifications for requisitions and other equipment, parts, and materials needed for operation.
  • Maintains operational records; prepares operational performance and other reports.
  • Assists in preparation of budget, including assistance in preparation of budget.
  • Liaisons for City of Pensacola Sanitation Services and other governmental agencies and general public. Answers public complaints pertaining to City service.
  • Operates a variety of complex sanitation equipment such as knuckle boom loaders tractors with front-end loaders, bushhogs, tractor-trailer rigs with compaction trailers, and automated side-loading garbage trucks, as necessary, for crew work; may operate equipment during training or emergency situations.
  • Mentors and supports coworkers by responding to questions and concerns, promoting a positive environment and culture prioritizing safety, operational excellence, and community.
  • Serves as essential emergency staff.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and other regulatory agency rules effecting the operation.
  • Ability to plan, assign, and effectively supervise work of employees.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a system of records, which are both clear and concise.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Ability to interpret and explain City policies and departmental procedures to employees.
  • Ability to estimate amounts of material and equipment required for a project.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to hold or feel, reach with hands and arms, walk, talk, smell, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, crouch and crawl. Specific vision abilities include near distance, far distance, color and peripheral vision, and depth perception.


The employee regularly lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 100 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
An employee in this job is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and has a risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment may be loud.
