Job Title: SAP ABAP Technical Lead

Relevant Experience: 10+ Years

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Role Overview We are looking for a highly experienced, self-driven SAP ABAP Technical Lead who can independently own technical solution delivery across multiple SAP modules. This role goes beyond development—it requires technical leadership, architecture thinking, stakeholder communication, cross-functional coordination, and proactive problem-solving. The ideal candidate should be capable of leading technical discussions, creating design presentations, coordinating with Basis, Security, Functional, and Integration teams, and driving technical decisions with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership

• Lead end-to-end technical design and development activities for SAP solutions.
• Own technical workstreams and drive delivery independently.
• Mentor junior developers and perform technical reviews.
• Translate business requirements into scalable SAP technical solutions.
• Identify technical risks and proactively recommend mitigation strategies.

SAP Development

• Expert-level ABAP development including:
• OO ABAP
• CDS Views
• AMDP
• Enhancements (BAdIs, User Exits, Implicit/Explicit Enhancements)
• Reports
• Interfaces
• Forms (Adobe Forms/SmartForms/SAPScript)
• Dialog Programming
• Workflow enhancements
• RFC/BAPI development
• Strong understanding of RAP programming model is preferred.
• Experience developing Fiori OData services (Gateway).

Performance Optimization Debugging

Must possess deep troubleshooting capabilities including:

• Advanced ABAP debugging
• Runtime analysis (SAT)
• SQL Trace (ST05)
• SQL Monitor
• Memory analysis
• Update task troubleshooting
• Background job troubleshooting
• Lock analysis
• Performance tuning of custom programs
• Database optimization
• Index recommendations
• Identification of bottlenecks across application and database layers

Ability to work with Basis to resolve:

• Long running jobs
• Memory issues
• Dumps
• Gateway issues
• RFC failures
• Transport problems
• HANA performance issues

Cross-Functional Coordination

Act as the technical lead across multiple teams by coordinating with:

• SAP Basis
• SAP Security
• Functional Consultants
• SAP Integration Team
• Middleware Team
• Infrastructure Team
• SAP RISE Operations
• SAP Support Team

Should be able to clearly communicate:

• Technical dependencies
• Infrastructure requirements
• Transport strategy
• Performance recommendations
• System readiness activities

Architecture Design

• Prepare technical architecture documents.
• Create sequence diagrams.
• Design interface architecture.
• Develop data flow diagrams.
• Produce technical specifications.
• Create implementation roadmaps.
• Participate in solution architecture discussions.

Integration Experience

Experience with:

• IDocs
• RFC
• BAPI
• OData
• REST APIs
• SOAP Services
• SAP Integration Suite
• Event-based integrations
• File-based interfaces

Knowledge of SAP TM integrations is highly desirable.

Documentation Presentations

Candidate should be comfortable creating executive-quality presentations including:

• Technical design presentations
• Solution architecture decks
• Technical decision documents
• Performance analysis reports
• Root cause analysis documents
• Executive status updates

Must be able to confidently present technical topics to:

• Technical teams
• Project leadership
• Architects
• Client stakeholders

Project Leadership

Expected to:

• Own technical workstreams
• Drive technical planning
• Estimate development effort
• Review code quality
• Track technical progress
• Coordinate offshore development
• Identify risks early
• Recommend improvements
• Ensure delivery quality

Acts as the technical point of contact for the project.

• Expert in Object-Oriented ABAP
• SAP HANA optimization
• CDS Views

• OData Services
• Enhancement Framework

• Advanced debugging
