Medical Director Veterinarian

Tempus Veterinary Recruitment · Boise, ID, Ada County, ID; Idaho, United States

FULL TIME

Job Description

Introduction
This small animal general practice in Boise, Idaho is seeking a full-time Medical Director to lead its clinical team. Currently home to one veterinarian, the hospital provides care exclusively for cats and dogs and is looking for an experienced veterinarian who wants to combine hands-on medicine with leadership, mentorship and the opportunity to shape the future direction of the practice. The role offers significant scope to develop the veterinary team, strengthen clinical standards and expand the hospital's surgical and diagnostic capabilities.

Working Hours / Rota
The position is full-time, with the Medical Director combining clinical responsibilities with dedicated leadership responsibilities. The hospital closes daily for a protected lunch period from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. The day-to-day caseload includes scheduled appointments alongside urgent cases, walk-ins and drop-offs, providing variety throughout the working week.

Role Description and Responsibilities
As Medical Director, you'll remain actively involved in clinical practice while taking responsibility for the hospital's medical standards and continued development. You'll work closely with the Practice Manager and wider leadership team, mentor and develop veterinarians, support recruitment and retention, and help create a positive and collaborative clinical culture. Clinically, the role is particularly well suited to a veterinarian who enjoys surgery, dentistry and diagnostics, with approximately three procedures performed each day including dentals, spays and neuters. At least three years of veterinary practice experience is required, alongside the ability to coach, motivate and develop others.

Practice Details
The 3,500-square-foot hospital has four exam rooms alongside modern surgical and dental facilities, ultrasound, digital dental radiography, cautery, suction and in-house bloodwork capabilities. A dedicated cat-friendly area provides feline patients with their own entrance, lobby and exam room to help minimise stress during visits. You'll join a close-knit support team that is eager to continue learning and developing, with the opportunity to help grow the hospital beyond its current one-doctor team while maintaining a strong focus on personalised patient and client care.
